Community Projects Adopt a School...here Guardcare...here Request National Guard support Many times, special event organizers call requesting volunteer assistance from National Guard soldiers or airmen. Members of the National Guard have a proud history of local community service, including participation in local events such as parades, Red Ribbon youth activities, safety days, patriotic observances and Adopt-A-School programs. The Ohio National Guard Public Affairs staff receives all volunteer requests, reviews and validates their legal propriety, then puts out a call across the organization for volunteers. Volunteers are not necessarily provided in an "official" capacity. The National Guard, as a government institution, refrains from endorsing specific organizations or events which it does not officially sponsor. Instead, it is up to individual Guard members to decide whether they volunteer their time. Event organizers should also be aware that military mission requirements may prevent our people from supporting off-base events. To request National Guard volunteers, event organizers should submit a completed DD Form 2536 (Request for Armed Forces Participation in Events) to the Ohio National Guard Public Affairs Office (AGOH-PA), 2825 West Dublin Granville Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43235 or FAX (614) 336-7410. Requests should be submitted 60-90 days prior to the event. Fewer than 60 days' notice greatly reduces the chance that volunteer support will be available. Requests received 30 days or closer to the event generally are NOT considered. Be sure to include the event's name and date, the sponsoring organization, and the name, address, telephone, and fax number of the point of contact (POC) for the event. In the remarks section, add any point -of-contact you may have already contacted at your local armory or base. If you have other questions, or would like more information on military support of your community event, please call the Ohio National Guard Public Affairs Office at (614) 336-7000. Support to Organizations and Special Events The Ohio National Guard is proud to be a member of the more than 54 communities throughout Ohio in which our soldiers and
airmen serve. Through an active community relations program, the Ohio National Guard demonstrates it is a good neighbor and community partner.
