Ohio Red Ribbon Campaign The National Guard supports the Ohio Red Ribbon Campaign, the largest drug prevention and awareness event in the state, since 1988. Large participation in Red Ribbon celebrations throughout Ohio result in communicating the "drug-free" message to more than 700,000 Ohioans annually. Higher Ground Higher Ground is a program based on the Josephson Institute of Ethics’ Character Counts program. The purpose of Higher Ground is to teach middle and high school youth the importance of ethical decision-making and develop skills to aid them in making good choices. The program utilizes small group discussions and activities to teach youth about ethical values known as the six pillars of character, which are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. Also included in the Higher Ground curriculum is a low ropes program called Mobile Team Challenge (MTC). MTC is incorporated as an experiential learning aid to assist in the use of the Six Pillars to accomplish team and goal oriented tasks. More than 2,000 Ohio high school youth completed Higher Ground training in 1999/2000. |
