Roswell Air Center’s Five-Year Business Plan will be presented to the city’s Finance Committee when this city council advisory group meets at 2 p.m. today, in the large conference room at City Hall.
About 35 pages long, this plan describes “strategy, objectives and operations for establishing and growing a successful international airport.”
The executive summary also explains that financial stability, market penetration and long-term sustainability are the main components necessary to meet this goal of being a leading aviation hub.
“By leveraging technology, innovative infrastructure development, and ensuring regulatory compliance, the Roswell Air Center is preparing to meet evolving industry demands and deliver a superior experience for all stakeholders,” the plan emphasizes.
Attaining financial stability for the airport is characterized as highlighting responsible expansion and investment. Such topics as increasing the geographic locations from which passengers use the air center for commercial flight and setting a tentative schedule for capital improvements to the facility totaling $44.4 million through 2030 are noted in this plan.
Other developments are to be reached at an accelerated pace.
By January 2027, the report calls for implementing an airport real estate plan that emphasizes creating a 100,000 square-foot hangar for wide-body aircraft as well as adding 30 general aviation T-hangars.
This timeline also sets the same deadline for enhancing the “type, level and quality of general aviation products, services and facilities … with a focus on development of commercial self-service fueling capabilities.”
By January 2028, the promotion of aviation scholarships, education and career opportunities are to be cooperative endeavors with the city, county airport tenants and regional education institutions. A committee to determine feasible partnership opportunities with local schools and universities will convene as soon as this coming March.
A property management plan for the airport was created in 2017. City officials have said the overall airport leasing situation is stronger than it has been in recent years.
This presentation is part of the Finance Committee’s regularly featured budget planning discussions. Earlier budget planning discussions have highlighted the Roswell Fire and the Engineering departments.
At least one person representing the airport speaks at the regular city council meetings.
