Staying hydrated before and during your trip is essential, and one of the easiest freebies to get at an airport is water.

Carmen suggests bringing a reusable water bottle to the airport, as many places will refill it with either hot or cold water for free.

Additionally, water fountains are usually located throughout terminals, allowing you to fill up your bottle on your own. But it’s not just regular drinking water you can get for free.

Many cafes and airport lounges offer free hot water, so if you bring your own tea bags, instant coffee, or even hot chocolate packets, you can whip up a tasty brew without shelling out for overpriced coffee shop drinks.

Carmen shared: “Hot water is usually free at cafes and airport lounges. Bring your own teabags or even instant coffee and enjoy a cuppa without the £4+ markup.”

2. Free samples

For those in need of a quick pick-me-up, airport beauty counters could be your saving grace. Carmen revealed that if you “ask nicely”, many of these counters are willing to give away free samples of items like moisturizer, perfume, or serum.

This means you can freshen up your skin or spritz on some perfume without spending a dime or having to lug around a larger product that you don’t really want.

3. Charging ports

Carmen also suggested that you can often charge your phone for free at an airport if you know where to look. The expert said airports typically have charging ports near TV screens and vending machines, or in areas where they don’t expect crowds.

Finding one of these ports means you can give your mobile a much-needed boost if it’s running low, which can be a lifesaver when you arrive at your destination and need to call someone for a ride.

Carmen, a seasoned traveler, shared a savvy tip that could help you save some cash, even though it’s not entirely free. She suggested that if you need toiletries or cosmetics from a store like Boots, you can often order them in advance and pick them up when you arrive at the airport.

Sometimes, these pharmacies will charge you standard market prices for these items when you buy them online, so you can save yourself some money by not paying inflated airport prices – even though you’re picking up from an airport shop.
